Bartimus Travel Group/CruiseOne and Council on Aging (COA) of St. Johns County have teamed up to form the new COA Travel Club! Inaugural “kick-off” meetings were held in September at COA’s Senior Centers located at Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach and St. Augustine’s River House.
“An August travel survey to recipients of COA’s e-newsletter demonstrated that the senior community has a strong interest in travel, including day trips, longer land tours, as well as cruises and overseas travel,” explained Tom Torretta, COA Development Director. “We are pleased and excited that Linda Bartimus and Judi Cowan of Bartimus Travel Group/CruiseOne have answered the challenge and partnered with us to provide group travel opportunities for seniors. Your participation in the club will help determine which trips are arranged.”
There is no membership fee to join the COA Travel Club. To become a member, seniors simply need to attend a travel meeting at a COA Center or participate in a travel activity. There are fees for the various travel activities.
Upcoming travel plans include a variety of choices:
• Local Discovery Trips begin with a visit to the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine to include lunch at Café Alcazar and an Upstairs, Downstairs tour of the Museum on Thursday, October 14.
• Members will go cruising on Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas for a 4-night, Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral sailing October 25 – 29.
• An Explorer Day Bus Trip follows on November 19 to Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island for a Historic Trolley tour, lunch and shopping.
• A New Year’s 6-night Celebration is planned on the MSC Meraviglia sailing roundtrip from Port Canaveral, Dec. 27 to Jan. 2, 2022.
Additional meetings and activities are being planned based upon the August survey and input from attendees at the kick-off meetings.
