In late October, Dusty and Monica Derickson opened one of St. Augustine Beaches’ newest restaurants, Cheba Hut St. Augustine, at 604 Anastasia Blvd.

They boast that the Cheba Hut is a “toasted” sub concept that has been curing the munchies since the first store opened in Colorado in 1998. Founder Scott Jennings decided to showcase the harmony between great tasting food and… well, a very specific counterculture.

The menu features over 30 signature sub sandwiches, as well as a variety of Rice Krispy treats, salads and munchies. Cheba Hut St. Augustine also offers local craft beers from area breweries.

The franchise owners are originally from Indiana but have raised their children here on Florida’s historic coast and are operating the laid-back munchies purveyor as a family business. The Derickson’s son Levi and daughter Taylor manage the day-to-day at the sandwich shop known for its bread, creative creations and veggie options.

When asked what you “must try” when trying Cheba Hut for the first time? Owners Dusty and Monica suggest the White Widow or Five-O sandwiches.
