Pumphrey manages 10 clinical and administrative staff . Kathy Pumphrey knew she was “called to nursing” from the early age of five when she was mesmerized by her first experience in the hospital setting. She often reflects on that day, as it is a vivid memory of her destiny to care for others.

Kathy, a native of Jacksonville, relocated with her family to South Carolina when she was a young child.

Pumphrey acquired her first position in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Units at the Medical University of South Carolina. Truly inspired through her experiences as an LPN, Kathy went on to acquire both her RN Degree and a Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1980 at Charleston Southern University. She later returned to Jacksonville where she continued her nursing career for more than 30 years. Pumphrey has gained vast, invaluable experience and has led many successful surgical services teams throughout her total of 40 years of nursing.

Her main career passions have always been patient advocacy and quality improvement. She takes great pride in providing “no less than excellent care” for patients and their families and believes wholeheartedly in the importance of teamwork. Her 85-year-old mother, who taught her how to love people unconditionally, lives with her and her husband Bob. Her daughter is currently in her third year of medical school and shares the same love for patients and passion for life.
