     June 1 - Tree Canopy Enhancement Program returns:  City of St. Augustine will launch its second annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, allowing homeowners located within City limits to request a tree, provided free of charge by the City, to be planted within the right-of-way adjacent to their property or on private property.

Homeowners can apply online starting June 1 until August 31, or until quantity limits are met, choosing from eight available tree species, including: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Sand Live Oak, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm. City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to verify the requested tree fits the available space. Final application selections will be made in September and trees will be planted November through February. After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.

Complete information regarding the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website www.citystaug.com/treecanopy. As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.

      June 2 - Concerts in the Plaza: The Driftwoods.  Group that plays Bluegrass and Beyond, is returning for the 31st season of Concerts in the Plaza on Thursday, June 2 at 7:00pm. The Driftwoods perform Bluegrass music in Northern Florida and the Southeast.

From original to contemporary and old-time tunes, their song variety is one of the hallmarks of their stage presentation. Concerts may be cancelled or postponed due to weather. If a concert is cancelled, the public will be notified on the city website and on Facebook. If a cancellation notice is not posted, then the concert is still scheduled.


      June 8 - COA’s Announces Anniversary Open House at THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach - June 8, 2022. COA invites the public to attend an Anniversary Open House at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 3p.m. to 6p.m. The open house will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the opening of the COA center in 2007.        June 17 - North American Vexillological Association (NAVA) 56th Annual Meeting. We are having our meeting in St. Augustine (Flagler College) June 17-19 this year. It will be the 56th annual meeting the organization has had and it is truly a North American organization! They have chosen St. Augustine, a city that loves flags, for the event! Previous annual meetings have usually been in the larger cities of North America.


     June 23 - Virtuosity and Beauty, Featuring Borodin” String Quartet No. 2 and violist Jorge Pena Jorge and his wife, Jin: He has been a member of the Jacksonville Symphony since 1996 and General Manager of the Coastal Symphony of Georgia since 2013.      June 24- Postcards from Austria, featuring Brahms Piano Quintet and pianist Terrence Wilson. Acclaimed by the Baltimore Sun as “one of the biggest pianistic talents to have emerged in this country in the last 25 years” pianist Terrence Wilson has appeared as soloist with the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Washington, DC (National Symphony), San Francisco, St. Louis, and with the orchestras of Cleveland, Minnesota, and Philadelphia and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.       June 25 - Danses and Spells, Featuring Liszt’s Malediction for Piano and String Orchestra and pianist Audrey Vardenega. Praised as a “musically eloquent” (SF Classical Voice) player “with the kind of freedom, authority and strength…that one expects from the world’s finest pianists” and a “bewildering musical presence” (The Piedmont Post), American pianist Audrey Vardenega has performed as a solo and collaborative pianist across Europe, China and the United States.      June 30 - Mozart and More: Featuring MOZART/ROBERT STALLMAN | Quintet in C, K521 (1787) For Flute, Violin, 2 Violas and Cello and violinist Nigel Armstrong

A graduate of the Colburn School and the Curtis Institute of Music, Nigel Armstrong is emerging as a dynamic and creative artist both within and beyond the realm of classical music. He has appeared as concertmaster with the Colburn Orchestra, The Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the New York String Orchestra in their annual Carnegie Hall performances.       July 1 - Rare Musical Gems: Featuring the Guillaume Concession and Aurica Duca, violinist Aurica has been a member of the Jacksonville Symphony since 2006. She is currently Principal Second Violinist. She has received many awards for her virtuosity including First Prize in the Cronelia Bronzetti Violin Competition and the International Violin Competition of Brasov. She has taken First Prize in the Cornelia Bronzetti violin competition and the International Violin Competition of Brasov. Ms. Duca was the gRand Prize winner at the Paul Constantinescu International Competition in Romania. Augustine Music Festival Concerts are held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine.      July 2 - Baroque to Romanticism: Featuring Songs of a Wayfairer and Emily Birsan, Soprano. The London Telegraph said of Ms. Birson, “…she sang with radiant delicacy.” The American soprano has shared her engaging skills with many of the world’s finest opera houses and orchestras, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Welsh National Opera, the Edinburgh Festival and the Boston Lyric Opera.
