Founded in 2010 by chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen is a not-for-profit organization devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. In 2018, World Central Kitchen served over 5 million fresh meals to victims of disaster. They have responded to emergencies in Puerto Rico, North Carolina, California, Haiti, Indonesia, and more.
The World Central Kitchen Chef Relief Team partners with organizations on the ground and activates a network of food trucks and emergency kitchens to deliver nutritious meals to survivors quickly and effectively.
“We envision a world where there is always a warm meal, an encouraging word, and a helping hand in hard times,” says Chef Jose Andres, Founder of World Central Kitchen.
Philip McDaniel and Mike Diaz, co-founders of the St. Augustine Distillery, share Chef Andres sentiment and felt compelled to do their part to help. The distillery created an opportunity for the local community to stock up on holiday spirits while making a difference.
“Our city has had its fair share of devastation and was, for a time, in the direct path of Hurricane Dorian. We feel a sense of responsibility and wanted to help however we could. We decided to donate a percentage of our sales and, with tremendous support from every person who visited our gift shop over the past few weeks, we are now able to send a check for $5000.00 to the WCK organization. It is truly amazing what can be accomplished when we work together for a common goal,” says co-founder Philip McDaniel.
